We must learn to come to Jesus simply to have God. If we really desire other things more than we want God, we can read all the Christian blogs and literature in the world, but if we don’t learn to come to Jesus without any hidden agenda, we are still going to be a big mess and we will be vulnerable to the different temptations of this world. The moment we become impatient or when our prayers go unanswered, most often, the enemy, who is also listening to our prayers would come with a counterfeit that’ll make it hard for us to resist. If our desire for worldly things is stronger than our desire to know God, this desire then gives birth to sin (James 1:15) and off we go to a never ending cycle of sinning and repenting, sinning and repenting.
Then we ask ourselves, “When and where does this end?”
You’d be shocked if I tell you that the end can actually be found where everything began and it’s quite simple, “In the beginning, God…” (Genesis 1:1). He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. (Revelation 22:13)
For someone who is desiring to start a new life, this is actually an invitation. Begin again. This time, with God – and just Him.
So, instead of asking God to give the desires of your heart, why not change your prayers to, “Lord, help me know You more. Teach me to be satisfied in You, and You alone. Change my desires to yours and help me know and believe that You are everything – my shield and my very great reward!” (Genesis 15:1)
