Just want to share my notes on the preaching of Pastor Charles Stanley on the same title series. Hope the message blesses you as well.
Having a Conviction
– being so thoroughly convinced that something is absolutely true that you take a stand for it regardless of the consequences.
Convictions about God
- God is an uncreated being.
You cannot put God behind because there’s nothing behind God.
“You turn people back to dust, saying, “Return to dust, you mortals!”” - Psalms 90:3 NLT
- God is omnipresent.
We do not need to find God. He’s everywhere.
Everything is God’s presence.
“Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.”” – Matthew 19:26 NLT
God cannot lie. He is the ultimate goodness, perfection and truth.
- God is omniscient.
God knows everything.
““The LORD our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions.” – Deuteronomy 29:29 NLT
There are certain things God will not tell us.
- God is righteous.
He always acts in accordance with what is right.
He sent the Holy Spirit because we knew we couldn’t do it. We cannot live apart from the Holy Spirit.
- God is a God of wrath.
He hates anything and everything that is sinful in a person’s life.
He intensely hates sins in every form!
“And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.”” – John 3:36 NLT
“For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body.” – 2 Corinthians 5:10 NLT
We will all stand in judgment before God.
As believers, we will not suffer wrath. God will judge us on the basis of how much truth we have heard and what we have done with that truth and opportunity. And we will be judged to be rewarded.
- God is a rewarder.
We will be rewarded according to the truth that we know, the opportunity we have and what we did with it.
“Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ. Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value. If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.” – 1 Corinthians 3:10-15 NLT
- God is to be worshipped.
Stop being embarrassed for being a Christian.
You can live like the world and get by, or you can live godly and have the best!
