The church service last night was amazing! For me personally, it was just another confirmation of what God has been telling me over the past couple of weeks.

It had been a tough season. To be honest, when you are struggling with depression and simply trying to get your head above the water, the things of heaven and of God seem like a hard truth to swallow and live out.

“It is finished!”

That was the word I received as I prayed and read my bible that morning. I brushed it off because honestly, I didn’t get it.

“What do you mean, Lord?” I thought, what is finished?

I thought, “God, I am more like the one finished in this situation!”

Each morning is a struggle to get back up as my thoughts would always wind me up in a defeated state. But as I drove back home that night, these words echoed again.

It is finished!

Then I get it! God was reminding me of the power of the Cross – what was paid on the Cross; what was completed and done on the Cross; and what He gave me whilst He was on the Cross.

Indeed, I was not only forgiven by Christ’s death on the Cross, but more than that I have been given the power and authority to defeat my enemies – a Truth that has been stolen from me by the devil through the years of constantly entertaining negative thoughts in my head – which had eventually led to a full blown depression.

Since then, I started to shut off the negativity in my head and began filling my thoughts with thoughts from heaven – those that are pure, noble, loving, kind, excellent, of good cheer, etc. Each day, I feel stronger. Slowly, I am learning to fight back darkness with light like a warrior princess slaying her enemies!

I am more than a conqueror!

So, whenever a negative thought comes, I recognize them as not from God, so I take them captive and make them obedient –  just as Christ has commanded. Then I would be in deep solemn peace.

It’s amazing what the power of God can do and it’s unfortunate that a lot of people don’t know this even for a lot of Christians like myself.

I have been walking with the Lord for the past nine years. But how often do we forget that we have this power and authority to fight anything that is not from heaven? So, it doesn’t really matter how long or how short we’ve been walking with God, if we don’t truly understand the ‘transaction’ that has taken place on the Cross, we will be deceived and defeated all over again.

So to summarize, what do these last words of Jesus really mean?

“Tetelestai” or “It is Finished!”

  • It stands finished.
  • It always will be finished.
  • Paid in full.
  • Our sins are forgiven.
  • We are saved.
  • We are reconciled to the Father.
  • Satan is defeated.
  • All our fears could no longer cripple us.
  • We are free.
  • Nothing can separate us from God.
  • We are accepted by God.
