When Dreams Come True

“What would you like to be when you grow up?” I asked my 4-year old nephew one time while sitting on the sofa and playing with my iPad. Not really expecting any sensible answer, he replied to me without a blink of an eye, “I want to be a red Ninjago!”

He loves the Ninjago cartoon series. He loves the costume, the sword, the mask, the fight scenes, everything! One time, he literally tried to be ‘nice’ to each one of us to test who among us would buy his cute chinky smile to get him the full set of ninja costume. Well, it didn’t take much effort for me to buy his little ‘drama’. So we set out one weekend to buy the whole ‘gear’. Apart from the robe, I also got him a sword and a mask to go with the entire ensemble. When we got home, he excitedly put them on one by one, studied himself in the mirror and raised up his sword very proudly as if he was about to take over the world. His eyes lit up with pride as he said, “Tita Pia, look! I am now a Red Ninjago!”

His dream just came true.

Can you imagine how beautiful that moment is when you reach that point where you look at yourself in the mirror and you realize that your dream had just come to pass? It’s like that final scene in a love story where the bride makes a final look in the mirror a few minutes before walking down the aisle and says to herself, “This is it!” Or that moment where a student after spending years of blood, sweat and tears in the university, finally puts on his graduation gown and receives his diploma. Priceless!

Dreams. We cherish those moments when suddenly they come to pass.

God places those dreams in our hearts so we could understand that He is faithful. Those dreams are there so that we will not stop seeking Him. In every dream that comes to pass is a step towards the very purpose why He created us. And in every step of the journey, it brings so much joy to the Father that He is glorified by it in the most amazing ways.

After my little nephew’s brief cloud-nine moment as a Ninjago has ‘expired’, he took off his robe and whispered to my ear, “Thank you, Tita Pia”. Then I smiled back, gave him a soft kiss on the cheek and hugged him very tightly, “You’re welcome, Zac!”

After that, I am instantly the best auntie in the whole world! Why? Because a promise has been fulfilled. Certainly, he loves me more after that. But I loved him first – even before he asked or even before he was born, simply because he is my nephew. Nothing and no one can take that love away from him.

How much more does our Heavenly Father feel towards us? “We love because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19) And we can be sure, that in everything, God takes delight in showing us His love and seeing our dreams come to pass because after all, He is the author of them all.
